I like working in the rural south, because I overhear professional educators say things like “I didn’t know there was fellas on the Pinterest,” real slow, and I think “OH MY GOD!” and get so excited to be somewhere so different, before I realize that they are skillfully manipulating discourse to both display self-awareness and gently mock an implied outsider-listener who would enjoy finding them quaint.
