Not just pure metaphysical good humour…

Sing! You may see meeee tonight…with an archaaaaic smile…it don’t cost very much…but it lasts a long whiiile… (Now, laugh: Because arch- denotes “first in time” [inter alia] and ba dum chhhhhhhh!)

Here’s what John Fowles said about the archaic smile, in The Magus: “…full of the purest metaphysical good humour […] timelessly intelligent and timelessly amused. […] That is the smile: that what might not be, is […] When I die, I shall have this by my bedside.”

I do not invite you to die, but should it come to that, why not keep this nearby? And before it comes to that: if the first part of all this made no sense: John Prine.
